Hello Everyone,
Firstly, I would like to say thanks to all the members that have showed their continued support over the years. Although 2011 has been a fairly slow year on the forums for G2D there has still been a wealth of development.
We are currently in full dev-mode for G2Dx8 and are all working on it, hopefully we will have something to show you extremely patient people, very soon. As we've always said, unless it was as good or better than G2D, it wouldn't get released, but I feel we are truly to the point now where it will be the premium engine.
2012 will see some exciting releases for G2D:
G2Dx8 - Dx8 Based Engine - this is not an updated G2D, this is a new engine.
G2D SSE - Side Scrolling Edition. This is finally at the beta stage and we will be rolling this out a few days after christmas. I would release it earlier but this time of year is for family, and that's where I will be spending the next couple of days. So, if you are a super Mario fan you will love this. Currently the moving platfrms need to be completed, but jump, crouch, climb.. prize blocks etc are completed and ready for testing.
G2D v4.0 - yes Version 4.0 will be released sometime in the second quarter of 2012.
G2D is nearing completion my friends. Besides bug fixes and GUI additions to GUIEDO and basically fixing all the things that are supposed to be customisable - it's pretty much done.
We designed it with as many features as we could jam pack without sacrificing too many resources and we also made the scripting as versatile as possible to ensure people could adapt it for their own games. When G2D 4.0 is released, please be aware that there will be no more additions to the engine
WINDOWS 8 - The big question.. will it Run?Currently MutantX is testing the beta for Windows 8, with any luck, soon he will give us a brief rundown of his experience running G2D under Windows 8.
---------------------------------
As most of you know Windows 8 is designed around the idea to be able to run on desktops, laptops and tablets but mostly on tablets due to its touch style interface. According to Microsoft and the information I have gathered Windows 8 will be backward compatible with most of the applications developed on the earlier versions of Windows but only for Windows 8 running on x86 and x64 architecture. On the other hand Windows 8 running on an ARM processor will not run applications designed for the x86 and x64 processors.
I tested G2Dx8 on a Windows 8 version running on a 32 bit processor and I am glad to report that I didn't run into any problems.
So where do we stand?
If you plan on upgrading to Windows 8 you shouldn't have any problems running G2D on a desktop or a laptop. G2D will most likely not be able to run on a tablet any time soon unless there is some type of an emulator that will aloud you to do this. ---------------------------------
New Website!Yes, it's been a long haul, but the genesis2d.net and this site will have a MAJOR overhaul soon. The entire site will move to a joomla framework also with the forums embedded. It will be easier to navigate and easier to find the information you need - and most importantly be easier for use to weed out the useless rubbish that clutters forums.
That's all for now folks, we will be releasing alot more info soon.
As with any holiday period, we remind everyone to take care, especially on the roads. We all want to see you safe and well in the new year!!
So with only a couple more sleeps to go, I'm off to build a chimney so Santa can visit!

Merry Christmas
the G2D Team.
