Hello G2D members,

As G2D 3.0 R3 is about to be released, we will be focusing on the Token Expansion system
and also in the future improving it, and it is in this stage we require someone with some
advanced or intermediate knowledge of PHP/CSS programming or similar.

What is the Token Expansion System?

The TES is a system in which you sell Tokens, or "Real life Credits" or whatever you refer to them as
Items and Maps can now be restricted to use only if the player has bought the expansion pack it
is locked to. The expansion pack is purchased with Tokens, which are a premium currency, and not something that is tradeable in-game.  The tokens are transferred to the players account and when in-game, they can purchase the expansion pack, granted they have the correct amount of
tokens to purchase it.

The Expansion editor can be found in the current XGE, it is fairly explanatory.

The Tokens are assigned from the Player Console in the Server, currently only.

The staff member we are looking for would possess the skills to understand the token
system in basic, and assist us in externalising it into a web interface that can interact with
servers.

Here is a basic flow of what we are looking to accomplish. We are hiring because we need a
dedicated person with a specialty in PHP programming or similar to help us re-code the
server to link to the external source, or or course vice versa link the external source
to the Server and transfer the tokens from there - thats a basic outline.

This is currently permanent un-unpaid position, but we can talk about pro-bono or other bonuses.
Applicants feel free to post here with your qualifications if you are interested. It is not a huge position,
but is very important.

Thank you

The G2D Team

Well, as it is unpaid I can try my best to help, I am currently a freshman CIT major with experience in vb, java, mysql servers, and web page design. I am in programming 2 atm and we are working on a java chat client and server. I can't promise anything spectacular but I will gladly try my best to help. Since I am a freshman I am still learning so don't expect a whole lot.

The position is currently unpaid, that could change in the future. If I could afford to pay, I would it's as simple as that.

Woah woah woah... Are you saying your TES system would be like;

User buys coins via paypal, etc.
Coins are transfered to in game via the database.
Player then can spend the coins/buy expansion?

This is like a premium market?

If so, that is so freakin BADASS!!

I will do CSS for you for free whatever you need, lol... I know its not what youre looking for, but hey, whatever, lol

Im sorry, I thought the picture was fairly self explanatory,  Green - done, orange is what we need someone for. If you believe you could do it in CSS by all means, the language is not important, as long as its secure and obviously web based and can communicate with our server. You could do a test on any VB6 server and we would adapt it.

You can use this feature now, but currently the only way to get the tokens right now is a server owner manually giving them to a player from the server.

I wouldn't say I specialize in php, but I've done random things and I'm pretty good with docs in hand... (I'm going to bed, I'll think this over and maybe post something tomorrow)

But anyways, paypal gives its sdk in php, java, and asp. So those would be the three prime choices.

I'm almost intermediate with PHP but not quite fluent yet, I'm learning fast and even bought a book specifically on programming database-driven websites a few weeks ago. I could probably do what your asking for within a few weeks to a month, but I'm not exactly sure how to get the tokens into the game itself since to my understanding it's not a database in the traditional sense.

I think I shall apply as a way to give back and it would be nice to work on something that actually gets used... (hehe, that and I don't mind reading through the paypal docs and I was planing to do it eventually anyways).

Current Obligations:
  • Mathematics / Comp. Sci. (software) Undergrad. (Sophomore)
  • 4/wk Python scripting for Comp. Sci. department.
  • Lite Mathematics Research (1/wk)
- I actually have a good amount of free time, but I tend to lay around and do nothing with it because noone else if ever around...  Undecided (pardon the mini rant)

Some Background:
  • A lot of what I've done in the past has been game editor scripting mostly under Blizzard titles (SC - GUI, WC3 - JASS/GUI, SC2 - Galaxy(C)/GUI). Mostly doing systems for rpg style maps and building of existing bit storing save codes.
  • I'll be honest and say most other things have been me dabbling.

Skill Level:
  • PHP - Fluent Basic, Doc assisted Intermediate/Advanced
  • Java - Fluent Basic/Intermediate, Doc assisted Intermediate/Advanced
-Might notice I'm not much for memorizing things, Mathematician and all that...

Other Programming Notes:
  • I've been looking into XML and SOAP lately. Just a bit of DOM XML in java at the moment but, this would be needed as well for paypal.

PHP Examples:
  • 'Fudling' with phpBB for the past couple years, although nothing to extensive
  • WallRepo experimental account creation using CURL. Testing it rather than doing what I've normally seen over the past few years.   [Highly Untested - Source ]
  • Miniscule messing around...

I guess I'll leave it at that.

Unanimous decision, I would like to congratulate Bobby on becoming a part of the G2D Team!

As discussed Bobby we will sort affairs out over the coming days, I need to get xadens input on a couple of things regarding the token system also.
